MassDEP GAP III Energy Grant 2023

The Sewer Department was awarded $90,000 through the MassDEP GAP III Energy Grant for our Influent Pump Efficiency Project.  This grant contributes to the bigger Influent Process and Control Building Upgrades Project which will replace influent pumps, piping, and valves; construct a new distribution box, make structural and architectural repairs and improvements to the control building; and replace electrical switchgear and MCCs (Motor Control Centers) in the new electrical room.  The primary focus and intention of the influent pump upgrade project is to improve the capacity and efficiency of the Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF).  The replacement of five existing influent pumps with four new dry pit submersible pumps and associated influent force main piping allows for pumping a wide range of influent flow rates while running fewer pumps in total and operating more efficiently.   This project results in long term energy improvements over the more than 30-year lifespan of the equipment.  It allows all flow through the plant to be more efficiently pumped at lower operating pressures associated with the piping improvements.

This project is part of the bigger Influent Process and Control Building Upgrades Project which began in Spring 2023.
