Hull's 375th Anniversary Committee

Save the Date - August 17th Parade

Around 400 years ago, the local Wampanoags and explorers started to make their home in what is now Hull Village with the establishment of a trading post in what was called Nantascot. As early as 1622 the Pilgrims had visited Nantascot. In 1643, the various plantations of land were divided by the Governor and Company of Massachusetts Bay into shires (divisions of land) with Nantascot placed in the Suffolk Shire. On May 29, 1644, it was ordered by the Governor and Company of Massachusetts Bay "that Nantascot shall be called Hull". Since Hull's beginnings, the town has distinguished itself by the actions of the town and its residents and visitors. This includes

  • Becoming in 1716 the home of America's first lighthouse
  • Having Fort Revere and Fort Independence guarding the entry to Boston Harbor and the town's strategic location
  • Playing a key part in the American Revolution
  • Having a world famous lifesaving crew led by many brave souls, including Joshua James
  • Becoing the basis for the United States Coast Guard
  • Maintaining a world famous beach and bay providing recreational opportunities to all
  • Hosting site of the first baseball game under electric lights
  • Of course home of Paragon Park - a world famous amusement park - and other amusements
  • And other accomplishments too numerous to mention.

The year 2019 marks the 375th Anniversary of Hull, leading to months of educational, historical and simply fun events. Join us as we celebrate Hull's 375th Anniversary
