Real ID
The Deparrtment of Homeland Security (DHS) has extended the REAL ID full enforcement date from October 1, 2021 to May 3, 2023, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Effective October 2020, Massachusetts travelers without a passport will have to apply for a REAL ID to fly within the United States or enter federal buildings. The REAL ID is a Federal Security Standard for ID's that was created in 2005 as a result of increased federal security measures after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
