Appeal Procedures

The following DO NOT constitute valid reason for dismissing a ticket: 

  • You did not see the NO PARKING sign
  • You did not know that the parking was restricted in that area where the violation occurred
  • You were only there for a short time
  • You have never been ticketed before
  • There are no other places to park
  • You think the fine is too high

** ALL APPEALS MUST BE IN WRITING. WE WILL NO LONGER BE ACCEPTING PARKING TICKET APPEALS IN THE TAX OFFICE.  ** 

Town of Hull Appeal Procedures:

  1. In accordance with Massachusetts General Laws, all parking violations must be paid or appealed within 21 days of the day of the violation. Any appeal after the 21 days from the date of violation was issued are held solely as the discretion of the parking clerk and may not be granted. All appeals must be in writing. In-person hearings will only be granted if your written appeal has been denied. 
  2. If you are appealing a parking ticket (s) please follow these procedures below:
    1. Click here to process your appeal online, this will give you an update via email when your appeal has been reviewed and when a decision is made.
    2. To appeal by mail, make a copy for your records, mail with your written appeal to: Town of Hull - Parking Clerk 253 Atlantic Ave  Hull, MA 02045 - Keep in mind that processing an appeal via mail will take longer to get a response from the parking clerk. 

Your written appeal should state your case clearly and concisely as to why you believe that you should not be held accountable to pay the parking ticket(s) that you are disputing. Be sure to include any supporting documents to support your appeal. 

       3.  You will not be charged any late fees during the appeal process. 

       4. If your appeal is approved you will be notified and no payment will be required

       5. If your appeal is denied you will be notified. Payment is required 30 days from the date on the letter or email. Failure to pay the parking ticket(s) in a timely fashion will result in additional fees               and possible non-renewal of your license and/or registration the registry of motor vehicles. 

DO NOT file multiple appeals for the same ticket. This will only delay the process. 

* Due to an increase in the number of appeals during the months of May - September, there will be a longer wait for appeal decisions. All tickets are placed on "hold" while the appeal is pending.
