ANNOUNCEMENT
PIPE LINING PROJECT ON NANTASKET AVE

If you have wondered what is going on with all the trucks and pipes along Nantasket Ave, the answer is the under ground pipes are being lined. The pipes, which are made of concrete have been damaged over the years from corrosion and the possibility of them collapsing has increased. To prevent this from happening a new pipe is being built inside the old pipe.

This is done by pulling a thick fabric tube through the old pipe and filling it with water that is heated to 180 degrees which causes a chemical reaction to occur resulting in a new plastic pipe being formed. During this process, which can take up to 24 hours, the section of pipe being lined is taken out of service. The orange pumps and metal pipe you see on the surface carry the sewage around the work site to maintain flow through the system.

As inconvenient as this can be to traffic the alternative of digging up and replacing the lines would be far worse. What can be lined in a day would take weeks to dig!

If you need assistance during work in your area just talk with the crew performing the work and they will help you out. If you have problems call us at the Sewer Plant, 781-925-1207 or the emergency pager at 781-226-1494 by entering your phone number using the keypad on your phone.

Permanent Sewer Commission:

The Permanent Sewer Commission consists of a board of five commissioners who oversee policy and major sewer upgrade projects, etc. The commissioners meet once a month. Monthly meetings are held at the Wastewater Treatment Plant office located at 1111 Nantasket Avenue, Hull.

Ninety-nine percent of the homes and business are now on line with the Towns’ sanitary sewer system.

Sewer user charge bills are based on each individual property owners water usage and issued from this department twice a year, in early March and early September. They are always six months in arrears as we purchase our information from Aquarion Operating Servicves.
The Permanent Sewer Commission recommends that if you do a lot of outside watering or have a sprinkler system, that it would be in your best interest to invest in a second deduction meter. This meter measures the amount of outside water use that does not go through the sanitary sewer system and this amount will be deducted off the spring bill. Homeowners are sent a postcard and asked to record their reading and return to the Water Treatment Facility.

This meter must measure cubic feet and be installed by a licensed plumber. You can purchase this meter on your own or have your plumber purchase it for you. After the meter is installed, either you or your plumber must call us with the following information, meter serial number, placement in the basement and then we can seal and read it.

We issue sewer permits for new building, rehabs, cap offs and properties not currently connected to the sewer system, i.e.; our last project was in the Straits’ Pond/Rockaway Area of Town.

If you are selling your home don’t forget that you, your realtor or attorney should give us a call for an estimated sewer user charge figure, as sewer is billed in arrears.
