Visual Fractions - This site is very helpful. It begins with identifying fractions, renaming, comparing, adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing. There is a cute little game called Find Grammy, Grampy which places an icon on a strip and the kids have to write their location as a fraction.
This is a fun site to go to. I don't know how it does it!!!!!
This particular site goes with our Everyday Math program. Here you can find Family letters that explain what your child is learning in a particular unit. This site also offers an overview of everything that your child is learning including games that help to reinforce what they are learning in class.
This site allows the students to play games that relate to what they are learning. All games that are introduced relate to specific skills and can be played at any time. The students enjoy playing the games in school and I know that they will enjoy playing them at home.
This site is a listing of many programs dealing with different subjects in math in which students are encouraged to Figure This! This can be used by the families at home to help students challenge themselves and to think inside as well as outside the box on specific topics. Each challenge features:
· a description of the important math involved
· a note on where the math is used in the real world
· a hint to get started
· complete solutions
· a "Try This" section
· additional related problems with answers
· questions to think about
· fun facts related to the math
· resources for further exploration.
The creators of this site have provided educational games for children in grades K-5 to practice basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division skills. Please note that this site is not strictly a math site. It also offers games for vocabulary, geography, and much more.
It has many math games related to skills essential for algebra and for practice of algebra itself. The games consist of mental mental math activities, activities for basic practice in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. There are also games for balancing equations using variables that kids can either add, subtract, multply, and divide to solve. A great feature is that students are able to select which function they would like to use for the games. This allows students at many different levels to play. Some of the games I found to be useful were math olympics (which worked on mental math problems, weigh the wang doodles (which worked on balancing equations using by plugging in numbers for the different variables), and the function machine. Math attack is also a great tool for speed drills
using addition, multiplying, and dividing. There are so many great games that I could go on for pages.
This website has interactive manipulatives for all grade levels pre k - 12. With this website, each student can use their own set of manipulatives. On this website, you can make up your own problems or use the computer generated ones.
