READING
We are following the Literacy Place Program. Additional opportunities to obtain books in school include our Web Cart, which visits our room once a week, and our visit to the library every Wednesday afternoon. Please have your child read books that you may own, or visit the Hull Public Library to borrow more books as well. I ask that your child read a minimum of 20 minutes a night. Reading can include reading to your child, your child reading to you, choral reading (when you and your child read the book out loud together at the same time), and echo reading. Echo reading is when you read a passage from the story and then your child reads that passage right after you. Remember to keep reading fun by trying the different ways suggested or perhaps going to the beach or the park to read for a
change. Also, keep a book in the car. If you're doing a lot of running around on any given afternoon, 20 minutes of your child reading a book in the car to you is a great way to get some reading in! :)
Math
The Family Home Links Letter will be sent home prior to each unit to inform you of the concepts that will be taught. Please keep this letter in a safe place as it has the answers to your child's homework.These anwers will help you and your child if you have any questions while reviewing their work. Make sure your child practices basic addition and subraction facts nightly. Your child will have math homework every night. We are currently working in Chapter 2 which focuses on addition and subtraction facts, inverse relationships between addition and subtraction, solving and writing number stories and identifying and using patterns. Please continue to work nightly on math facts with your child.
