READING

In September we will be launching our readers' workshop by learning to select "just right" books and learning that readers are always thinking about what they are reading.    In subsequent months we will be working on reading strategies to improve fluency and comprehension.

An excellent way to spend time with your child is to read aloud to them or along with them.   Stop, think, and discuss the characters, setting, and plot of the story as you read.   Your child will gain fluency and a better understanding of your shared reading.

MATH

    September, October, 2011
In Unit 1 of Everyday Math we will explore patterns on number grids and review telling time and using mathematical tools.   Also, we will be doing some review on making predictions based on data and giving equivalent names for numbers.   Please continue to practice addition and subtractions facts at home.

In Unit 2 we will work on basic facts and their extensions, solving addition and subtraction number stories, and addition and subtraction computation with multidigit numbers.
