Course Overview:
This eleventh grade course is a continuation of United States History I. The time span for the study in the course will be from Reconstruction through the present. Attention will be given to the themes of historical events, geographical influences, economic development and government structures. There is an emphasis placed on critical thinking and reading, analysis, interpretations, and verbal and written communication skills.
Course Objectives:
- Students will develop and acquire knowledge of the use of power and authority.
- Students will develop and acquire knowledge of religious and ethical systems.
- Students will develop and acquire knowledge of the role revolution has had on the development of democratic institutions.
- Students will develop and acquire knowledge of the powerful force economics has had on the world.
- Students will develop and acquire knowledge of how countries have dominated through empire building
- Students will develop and acquire knowledge of how science and technology have played a key role in world history.

- Reconstruction
- Industrial Revolution
- The Age of Reform
- World War I 1914 – 1918
- Progressivism and the New Deal
- World War II – 1939-1945
- The Cold War at home and abroad 1945-1989
- Contemporary America – 1980 – present

- All textbook assignments, supplemental readings and literary works as assigned.

Course Evaluation Criteria:
- Tests, quizzes, research papers, essays, projects, homework, class participation and attitude all factor in to your grade. Percentages will vary based on what is covered each term.
Course Policies:
- Attendance, tardiness, behavioral consequences, academic dishonesty, and make up of missing work – as outlined in the Hull High Student Handbook.
- Class Preparation – Bring the textbook, pen/pencil, notebook and agenda to class every day and complete the assigned readings.
- Homework – Homework will be given most nights. Homework is given as an aid to understanding the concepts and skills presented in class and to reinforce the assigned readings.
- Classroom rules - Be on time. Be respectful and use appropriate language at all times.
- Extra help - Most days after school until approximately 3:00pm unless otherwise pre-arranged.
